Enhancement of the hydrodesulfurization and C−S bond cleavage activities of rhodium phosphide catalysts by platinum addition

To enhance the hydrodesulfurization (HDS) activity of SiO2-supported Rh phosphide catalysts, various second metal-added Rh–P catalysts were developed; furthermore, effect addition metal on HDS performance was examined. The metals (M: Ru, Pt, and Ir) selected as per Sabatier principle. In situ X-ray diffraction revealed formation an Rh2P phase in Rh–M–P catalyst after reduction. Ru Pt to enhanced C−S bond cleavage activity, whereas Ir had virtually no effect. Rh–Pt–P demonstrated highest among catalysts. characterization results presence positively charged surface, which cooperatively act active sites activity.
